Briginally titled Billboard Advertising it was a trade paper for the bill posting industry, hence the magazine's name. Within a few years of its founding, it began to carry news of outdoor amusements, a major consumer of billboard space. Eventually, Billboard became the paper of record for circuses, carnivals, amusement parks, fairs, vaudeville, minstrels, whale shows and other live entertainment. The magazine began coverage of motion pictures in 1909 and of radio in the 1920s. Though the first music connection was the Billboard sheet music best sellers charts & top songs in vaudeville theaters published in 1913 but it was not a regular chart yet.

Bill board magazine has changed dramatically since they first started. There images have been further developed along with their texts. Their text is clearer to read and their images aren't pixie they are current artists in the top charts which makes it more modern. The colour red has remained the same through the years.

Drafting and Planning

i visited a font website to help me think of an idea of what font will cover the magazine. This website was called http://www.1001fonts.com/new-and-fresh-fonts.html?page=3&items=10. The word noise  is an idea for the name of my mast head as this associates with music. Also another mast head idea could be loud which also is associated with music/songs.

By researching into different fonts, it helped me make a decision on what fonts I will use throughout my magazine. Looking at a variety of fonts helps me see what suits a house style, for example if i was producing a rock magazine, i would expect to see an edgy font to match the ethos and house style of the magazine.

Self-Assesment

Self Assessment On The Codes And Convention Task.

Have you justified your decision on the blog? how can you improve your entries?
I have not justified my decision on why I chose the codes and conventions I did on each magazine which I was given. I also haven't chosen my reasoning for what genre of music the magazine is based on and what target audience the magazine is aimed at. To improve my entries I could add more story lines which fit in with the ethos of the magazine. I could also improve them by making sure there is a realistic pricing to the magazine.

How do you plan to use these in the future?
I will use these drafting and planning of magazines in the future by looking at what I done well which might be effective to add onto my final magazine. Also I will look at what I needed to improve on which will help me develop my editing skills in the future, which will result in my final magazine being a better version. I now know for the future to keep in mind who my target audience is and that the magazine has to stick to that target audience and also I will focus on making the story lines match the ethos and philosophy of the magazine itself.

Jayne Eliza- hip hop genre artist.
Target Audience ranges from 14-19
Pink jumper colour co-ordinated with theme magazine colours
Pink- shows feminity, Sunglasses give her a cool style, shirt wrapped around waist emphasise her passion for fashion.
Facial Expression- Serious, elegant look- direct eye contact with camera
body langauge- hand on hip- dedicated to her career and confident.
crop top jumper- revealing
Here is a draft of a front magazine using a VIBE masthead, this masthead was used because their magazines feature r&b and pop music genre which is the same as mine. Therefore they presentation of the layout of different codes and conventions was inherited into the above front cover. I used a round shape with the advertisement of '204 songs' to be downloaded. The bright pink circle was to stand out to the consumers and inspire them to go and purchase the songs but pink was chosen to make the colour scheme consistent. The text was based on white, pink and black. These are because pink shows the feline of the artist, the black shows elegance and a dominant figure and lastly white shows purity. The props used was a waist wrapped tshirt, this was because this is the fashion at this time and wanted to show a fashion role model. The sunglasses were used to make her unrevealed and to indicate to the reader they need to read further into the magazine to reveal who she is.  By doing this it has developed my practice in producing front covers for music magazines and made me think about things for improvement which i can do when designing my final magazine.

Drafting and Planning

This is a little task we did, to see how we applied codes and conventions based on the genre of the magazine. When looking back at this task compared to my final front page, there is a massive improvement in developing my understanding of codes and conventions. This task taught me how to use colours and themes based on the genre of the magazine, for instance- a rock band could use an edgy font with dark colours. This will help me to pick colour based on my pop music genre.

Organisation

This is a photo-shoot of my artist, trying out different poses which were inspired by several other arists such as Beyoncé, Iggy Azalea and Niki Minaj, I took several of images so I have a range to choose from and decide which images suit my magazine house style better. The clothing i chose for this specific photo-shoot was a pink dress, the colour pink highlights her feminity. Also i used jewlerry as props such as a watch and rings to show her wealth.

Target Audience Survey

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BFP2RHD

This is my link to my survey, to help me decide my target audience.
This will develop my ideas on what information to keep my audience engaged and attract them to buy the magazine, This will also develop my ideas on what artists will inspire mine. it will give me a draft idea of what age range likes the chosen genre of music i am presenting on my magazine. A blog will be later posted when i have results to show my highest number of people who like what genre of music and what age they are and how much they are willing to spend on a magazine.
